Ideas for Future Presentations
This is the incubator for future presentations. Once a presentation has been scheduled, it is moved to the Meeting Notes page under Future Presentations.
SAN
Rob asked for a presentation on SAN
Python
Rob also suggested a presentation on Python
PAM
At the LDAP presentation, a few of us recounted our trials and tribulations with PAM (Pluggable Authentication Modules). We all agreed that a presentation on PAM was in order, but I didn't see anyone jumping up and offering, as I think we have all been burned by PAM in the past.
General Admin Topics
Donald Cowart offered to do a presentation on a general administration topic. It would probably be a good idea to either subdivided this or pare it down to something more specific.
Outside Vendor Presentations
I would think if we can get attendance up at least to the 10-15 range, certain local vendors would love to be invited to come in and present to us. I'd love to get suggestions here.
Intro to Asterisk
I'm not an expert by any means, but if you twisted my arm hard enough, I could probably make a presentation on Asterisk. This would also be a candidate for having an outside vendor come in; the Gainesville LUG had an Asterisk presentation about 18 months ago, presented by The VoIP Connection, and I can imagine they would be happy to do the same for us.
MythTV
I have heard people asking for an encore performance of a legendary presentation by Riskable on MythTV.
Recovery from a LiveCD
Oracle Unbreakable Linux
I believe Pat Geer has a contact for this one.
Certifications for Linux
Virtualization
Walkthrough of setting up Xen / VMWare / other virtualization technology
Hip Pocket Presentations
I want to have 2 or 3 of these waiting in the wings at all times. These would be topics that a particular regular attendee is fairly comfortable with, and could be gotten together with minimal notice in the case of a last-minute cancellation by our presenter.
Firebird
After hearing some of our trials and tribulations with PostgreSQL, William has decided he must come in and do a presentation on Firebird. Since he's done several presentations recently, I'll ask him just to have this ready. If we haven't needed to use it in a few months, we'll roll it up to our scheduled presentations and come up with another hip-pocket presentation.
Data Center
William has offered to maybe do a presentation on what to look for in a Data Center.
