Linux Background

My introduction to Linux is kind of unique. An interest in computer programming channeled me towards Linux instead of the other way around.

My first experience with Linux was in my sophmore year of college (2000 - 2001). I took an Intro to Programming class that used Unix (and later Linux) as its development environment. The one thing that stuck with me about the experience was that the evironment stayed out of the way and the development tools were standardized between machines. I went to work for a small logistics company where I experienced development on many platforms but I always found myself gravitating back to Linux. After trying nearly every flavor of Linux and Unix, I have since adopted Gentoo as my primary Operating System of choice.
